Cynthia’s Babies.

Cynthia, Pups and Kitten

Cynthia, an Australian Silky Terrier, is a little old lady of 14 years. The years have made her deaf and blind. She often sits with a distant look on her face, maybe she is thinking about how her kids are doing, or maybe she remembers one special time of her life.

She was young, pretty and pregnant, sitting watching her kennel friend Rudi the Miniature Scnauzer, tending to her four babies. Cynthia did not think Rudi was doing such a good job and thought she would do better. A few days later Cynthia had two babies of her own, the prettiest things she ever saw.

Rudi got sick with milk fever, so Cynthia offered to feed and care for her babies too. Cynthia thought six babies to look after was a fair litter and she had decided she would not hand the four Schnauzer babies back.

Life was good, but she should have not counted her chickens before they were hatched. Things were about to change for the worse. A friend of her human Mum came with two babies that were orphaned at birth. They needed a good bath and a good meal. Cynthia obliged once again.

Cynthia had almost got used to her mixed lot when her human Dad came home from his paper run with a little kitten he had found on a flooded road. It was wet and very little and needed a meal. Now eight puppies and a kitten can keep a girl busy and in time they all grew, some more than others. When the lot of the babies were eight weeks old, Cynthia’s legs were too short to reach the ground when they all dived under her for a feed.

The kitten was the only one to stay, and as a fully grown cat still enjoyed his milkbar. But he also had to endure the occasional bath, and we often wondered if the cat told his feline friends that his Mum was a bitch.

Whatever it is Cynthia is thinking about, she still enjoys life.
