HT CGC HRD-1STDs is my "once in a lifetime dog". I have a very
special relationship with him. We seem to know what each other is
thinking without any problems of a language barrier. Newt can just
give me a certain look and I immediately know he wants a treat
stuffed into his Kong toy. He can let me know we missed noticing a
car passing when going for a drive when he lays his paw on my arm
and softly "bark/talks".
Newt is a speedster in Agility competitions. It's as if he sprouts wings waiting at
the start line. He has taught me a lot about strategies when training and competing
with a fast dog. I am glad he knows all of the different agility obstacles so well as I
sometimes loose track of them myself. All I have to do is point to the correct
obstacle and say "do that one whatever it is and that one too", Newtie always
gets it right! It is as if Newt doesn't even really need me on the course at all!
I have trained several dogs in obedience, but never felt like trying them in competitions until
Newt came into my life. Now we haven't always achieved the highest scores or anything.
However, one obedience Judge told us recently that she "just loved Newt" because he
wasn't a robot. She continued saying that Newt and I made a good team. Those compliments
meant more to me than all the OTCH points and 200 scores one could ever earn!
Besides competing with Newt in agility or obedience, I am very fortunate to have him as my
best canine friend and companion. I have owned many dogs over the years, but Newt simply
is my favorite and I love him very much!
