Indigo Skye was born March 21, 1996, in Clay City, Illinois - in a dark metal barn - in a wire crate several feet above the ground. Her mommy got to stay with Indi and her siblings in the crate and was hosed down twice a day when straw was thrown into the crate, and "mommy" was given food.
We were taken up to the house to see the other dogs - there they were - lined in cages and pens - not just Australian Shepherds, but King Charles Spaniels, Huskys, Golden Retrievers, and many others we could not see. As I clutched onto the poor little puppy that I had wrapped in my jacket - who was not really sure what I was - a sweet Aussie LIMPED up to me and bumped up against my leg. Her eyes pleaded with me to take her, too! I asked why she was limping - and we were told that this was Indi's aunt - she didn't like the storms - so she climbed out of the TEN-FOOT-PEN and caught her leg - and FELL to the ground the night before - she would be just fine - she always does that when there were storms. We had just about enough - and although we KNEW we should not EVER buy a puppy from a puppy mill - we couldn't put her back! We had held her in our arms - and we needed to rescue her! We wanted to take them all - but we couldn't - maybe we could save this one!
Cheyenne was born in Olympia, Washington - to her mommy; Carolina's Dancing at Dawn "Reba" (International Youth Champion, National Youth Champion) and her daddy; Ch. Carolina's Williedash "Willie" (International Champion, American Champion, Canadian Champion, National Champion, International Youth Champion, Multiple "Best of Breed" & Group I Winner). She comes from a Legacy of Australian Shepherd Champions, and SEVEN Hall of Fame ancestors! WOW!!!!! Cheyenne was born with her siblings on January 18, 1998 - at the Painted Rose Ranch, to Mrs. Jill Rose - and less than a week later - she found a home here with us!
