Poodle
Hayden's Kennel

France is officially recognized as the Poodle's country of origin. Other accounts however, have the Poodle coming from several other cities in Europe. The breed has been around for hundreds of years, included in the breed is possibly the Hungarian Water Hound and the nearly extinct Barbet. They are used as gun dogs for retrieving waterfowl and as performing dogs in the circus. The name Poodle may have come from "Pudel", which translates from german to "one who plays in water".

Coat: Solid colours, curly.

Weight: 3 - 5 kg.

Height: up to 25 cm.

The Poodle is a very intelligent, very trainable breed. There are three sizes, Toy, Minuature and Standard. They can be a bit snappy with strangers and other dogs. They require training to dissuade these traits. They have lots of energy and some tend to bark alot. They can get a good amount of exercise around the home so make a good choice for someone with little or no backyard, although they will like regular outings for exercise in open areas. You will need to give them a good amount of training, which will be made very rewarding by your Poodle who is a quick learner and very eager to please.
