Nala Dog

My name is Heather St.George.I want to tell you about my first experience with a pit bull.I was homeless at the age of 17 yrs old.I used to walk the streets of Akron,Ohio. One day, I walked by a house and saw a man beating his pit bull with a chain. After seeing that, I asked the owner if I could have her.He told me that he was going to kill her any way and that I could do what I wanted with her.She was a pure white red nose with a scar around her back leg where a chain had been wrapped around and yanked back. Her name was Nala. For the first two weeks,I couldn't walk down the street without her trying to bite everyone. She was very protective of me.She finally realized that not everyone is out to hurt me. She never left my side, even with out the leash.I finally came to the realization that I could not care for her the way that she deserved to be cared for.All I could do was give her all of my love. One day, I tried to let Nala loose in the woods.I knew she loved the woods and hoped that someone would give her the care she deserved. But she wouldn't leave my side. Finally, a friend seen me walking and picked me up.Nala chased the car for about 2 miles.I broke down in tears. That is when I realized that we had a special bond.I let her in the car and my friend offered to take her to his house and keep her there so that I could come see her.I found out 2 days later that his parents took her to the humane society, where she was put to sleep because she had no tag or insurance on her.In Ohio, you have to have insurance to own a pit bull.I always think of her and the bond that we had together. After having her, I know that with the right training and lots of love, the American Pit Bull Terrier is one of the best companion dogs out there. They are very loving and devoted.I know that there are a lot of Nala's out there waiting to find love.
