Winnie the Wonderful Golden
Our Life Together...So Far

My birthday was on June 28th. I was turning 12. My party was that Saturday July 1. It was a family party. Just me, mom, dad, sis, bro-in-law, cousin, and aunt. I got a email from my bro apoligizing that he couldn't come, but he said he hoped I wasn't disappionted. I had a pretty strong feeling then that it was a dog.

After my sister and her hubby came, my aunt and cousin came with a HUGE sack. My sis had brought her video camera. I opened the cardboard box with a ribbon around it and what looks like my mom got a little tape happy.I opened it up and startd pulling out tissue paper. Then I pulled out a blue folder. I opened it up and there was an adoption form from the Humane Society and underneath was a "Puppies USA" magazine.

I was stoked. I couldn't belive my parents were actually going to let a dog inside our house! I was litterally speechless. But I had always wanted a dog otherwise, I wouldn't know where I'd be right now if it wasn't for my dog.

I opened the sack my aunt and cousin gave me. Inside were food and water bowls, 2 toys,a sample bag of food, brochures, coupons, and a whole lot of other things.

After the cake and ice cream, my sister and her hubby said to read the magazine over tonight and that we'd go to the Humane Society the next day to look at dogs. WE went to website before they left and then when they did, I started reading. I finished in 35 minutes tops. I went to bed early.

We met them there at about 11:30 the next morning. We were there for probably an hour looking at dogs. I had my heart set on a Golden Retriever, 2 1/2 yrs, female, named Winnie. I knew she was the one. Goldens were my favorite dogs, and I had always loved Winnie the Pooh. THe next day, my sister, her husband, and the rest of us went back and got her.

The first month was kinda "ruff". She had been there for a week. She was given up a day before my birthday. She had had puppies and they were taken away. She was also spayed. The Society even called to check on her.

But after awhile she started to make friends. My friend across the street, Abby, had a German Shepherd the same age. They clicked right away. Whenever they come to the door, she whines because she knows who they are.

The first time we left her home alone, I came inside and she was on the couch! At night, she hops up on the bed! During thunderstorms she crawls under my arm and snuggles with me!

Anyway, Winnie has been the greatest. We've had her for almost a year. I love her so much! She's my best friend! She's always there for me. She's always happy to see me. She's my stronghold. She supports me. She saved my life. I'd give my for her and I know she'd do the same for me. I love you Winnie.
